Featured Artist: Geppetta

Adelaide Windsome, a whimsy-core puppeteer and uke princess who performs under the name Geppetta, is a queer fabulist, street performer, multimedia artist, and art educator currently based in Philadelphia. Growing up fairly nomadic with a fear of dolls and an overactive imagination, she naturally gravitated towards the lifestyle of a traveling puppeteer.

Inspired by classic fables and myths, occult symbolism, street art, and surrealism infused with a pension for social/ environmental activism and transfeminist sensibilities, Windsome presents art/performance as a cryptic, yet politically aware language that is inventive and enlightening. For Windsome, performance is a tool for growth and advocacy; finding voice and empowerment in an unsettling world.

Hear Them Howling, a current performance, is a collection of surreal fables of a dark humor as told through puppet theater. The fables feature an array of unusual yet magical creatures with self-destructive habits that result in the most unexpected outcomes. Hear Them Howling uses fables as a tool to create visibility and dialog around mental issues, such as depression, grief, self-harm, trauma, and suicide. This project advocates that language around mental health needs (at times) to be cryptic, dwell in macabre, and never shy from whimsy.

In addition to Hear Them Howling, Windsome is also developing Of Grace and Stone, a 15 minute spoken word/cabaret performance, into a full-length performance set to be completed early next year.

Of Grace and Stone is a memoir of the artist's experiences street performing as a living statue in the heart of the city that bleeds into a twisted fairy tale birthed from a stagnant, sun-poisoned imagination. This piece is an exploration of how public space interacts with gender identity and the process of becoming (and unbecoming) an object of collective imagination.

As an educator, Windsome has facilitated workshops on social justice, trans activism, and art at various colleges and universities including the University of North Carolina, James Madison University, and Western Washington University.

To date, Windsome has performed in over 25 different states. She tours regularly as an independent artist as well as with the Tranny Roadshow and The Femme Show. She has been a featured artist with Fresh Meat Productions, Red Sun Press, Puppet Uprising, and the Philadelphia Rock 'n Roll Camp for Girls, among others.

On Wednesday Septemper 29th, Windsome will be performing at the Milky Way, 283 Amory St. in Jamaica Plain for the Trans Fusions National Tour with featured artists Modern Day Pinnochio (AJ Bryce), ftm multimedia rocker, Jamez Terry, humorist & storyteller, and Liam Bechen, poet & guitrist. The group will also be showcasing the work of Wolfie E. Rawk. The show is co-sponsored by Transcriptions Open Mic. Admission is $3-5 and the show begins at 9 pm. For additional information contact transfusionstour@gmail.com.
